Risdall announces the addition of Folkens as vice president

Risdall announces the addition of Dave Folkens as vice president of Risdall Public Relations.
“Dave is a fantastic fit for Risdall as we continue to focus on growing our digital and PR efforts for health care and medical device organizations,” said Joel Swanson, APR, president of Risdall Public Relations. “We will leverage his corporate and large agency experience to serve in a leadership role on business development, create and lead client teams, and provide strategic communications counsel to clients.”

Folkens specializes in providing strategic counseling to clients. With a broad range of communications experience, he will leverage Risdall’s resources to set the course for clients’ success.
Folkens has worked in health care communications for two decades, starting with corporate work at Orphan Medical and Medtronic Inc. He then moved to the agency side of public relations when he joined Fleishman-Hillard. To further his experience, he entered the nonprofit world with the Minnesota AIDS Project. Folkens returned to the agency setting at PadillaCRT where he led several health care accounts before joining Risdall.

“My background has been very diverse, which fits well with a company like Risdall where so much of its value is placed on integrated marketing,” Folkens said. “I always look for opportunities to serve clients on all of their needs, and at Risdall, we have the capacity to do that.”

Folkens graduated from Moorhead State University in Minnesota with a degree in mass communication with an emphasis in public relations. He is an active member of the Minnesota chapter of the Public Relations Society of America and serves on the board for Children’s Cancer Research Fund.

Marketing design agency Olive & Company has announced the addition of five new employees over the past year: Ben Oberg as account executive, Jessie Reagen as art director, Jonathan Sollie as graphic designer, Danielle Noyes as project manager and Katie Yohn as office assistant.

“The new hires strengthen our overall level of client service while further bolstering our studio’s creative talent,” said Tom Keekley, Olive & Company partner. “We’ve brought in several new clients over the past year, and we are taking steps to ensure that all of our clients continue to receive the same level of exceptional design and service that they have come to expect from our team.”

As account executive, Oberg serves as a day-to-day client contact, oversees execution of projects and develops new business for the agency. He previously worked at Linnihan Foy Advertising and Sevnthsin. Oberg has a bachelor’s degree in communications from Minnesota State University, Mankato.

As art director, Reagen manages the Olive & Company design department, ensuring that the agency’s work is consistent with each client’s brand voice and business objectives. She previously worked as an art director and graphic designer at ideapark, where one of her primary accounts was the General Mills Box Tops for Education program. Reagan graduated with distinction from Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design.

In his role as graphic designer, Sollie creates smart, innovative designs across a wide range of client projects including interactive, print collateral, advertising, branding and more. He most recently worked as a junior graphic designer at Morsekode. Sollie has a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and volunteers with MNfashion.

As project manager, Noyes manages client projects from start to finish, ensuring that the work gets done properly, on time and on target. She also coordinates internal staff and resources to optimize project efficiency. Noyes previously worked as a project manager at Fallon, Martin|Williams and FAME. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor’s degree in English. Noyes also has an associate degree from New York University.

In her role as office assistant, Yohn greets office guests, handles daily office upkeep and organization, contributes to the Olive Blog and assists all agency departments with project management, graphics, accounts and digital strategy. She previously worked for film company Entertainment One, interned at Indie PR and supported multiple television productions as office and set production assistant at Magnetic Productions. Yohn has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

“All of these employees are high-achieving individuals and excellent additions to the Olive & Company team,” said Rob Haskin, Olive & Company partner.

PadillaCRT welcomes new chief creative officer, Heath Rudduck

Heath is joining PadillaCRT in their Minneapolis headquarters and brings a wealth of advertising and digital agency experience from his tenure as chief creative officer at Minneapolis-based ad agency Campbell Mithun, as executive creative director for Digitas in Boston and leadership positions at Tribal DDB, DDB Melbourne, Squib, Zivo and BBDO Interactive. Heath hails from Australia and began his career at Y&R.

As part of the leadership team, Heath will lead our 30-person creative design and digital team working across our six offices.

Heath’s arrival underscores the transformation that PadillaCRT has undertaken over the last year to take our agency far beyond the traditional boundaries of “public relations” and into sprawling, surging world of multidimensional communications and audience engagement. As Heath put it, there’s plenty of opportunity to put both PadillaCRT’s traditional strengths and its expanded capabilities to work in new and valuable ways.

PRSA Classics - Judges Needed

We are still in need of volunteers to judge the Phoenix Awards on behalf of our judging partner, the Georgia PRSA chapter. Judging needs to be completed by August 27 and we need 10 additional judges to meet that deadline. If you have time to help judge, please consider signing up here.

As a reminder, the Classics committee partnered with the Georgia chapter for judging last year. It is time for our chapter to fulfill our end of the agreement and judge their entries. We are counting on PR professionals with their APR (and/or five years of industry experience) to make this happen. Judging will only take about an hour of your time, and can be completed at your convenience, prior to August 27, through their online portal.

Thank you,

The MN PRSA Classics Committee

Play from Scratch selects Bellmont Partners as PR agency

St. Paul-based Play from Scratch, an eco-friendly toy company that specializes in building sets made from sustainable materials, has chosen Minneapolis-based Bellmont Partners to coordinate the company’s public relations and media relations, as well as provide additional brand strategy and communications support.

“Bellmont Partners’ background in youth and consumer marketing, coupled with its creative approach to business, made it a perfect fit for Play from Scratch,” says Jeff Freeland Nelson, founder and CEO of Play from Scratch. “Our building kits are designed to inspire imagination, and this partnership will help shine the spotlight on Play from Scratch’s philosophy, and bring creativity and imagination into the lives of more children across the country.”

Play from Scratch develops, designs and markets creative and eco-awesome toys to the direct-to-consumer and wholesale markets, with the mission to inspire relentlessly creative kids through toys and games made from sustainable materials. The company launched in 2012 with a series of raw material kits and, after a successful Kickstarter campaign, introduced its YOXO (“yock-so”) line of toys to a test market in 2013.

“Play from Scratch is the perfect client for our agency as it enables us to blend our strategic mindset with our passion for executing and producing phenomenal results," says Brian Bellmont, president, Bellmont Partners. “Knowing their products are manufactured right here in our backyard is an added bonus. We can’t wait to share their story with the world.”

Suitable for ages 4 - 104, Play From Scratch’s YOXO building sets consist of patent-pending notched links – Y’s, O’s and X’s – that can be connected in thousands of ways and attached to stuff around the house (toilet paper tubes, paper towel rolls, cardboard boxes, etc.), inspiring kids to build anything they can imagine. YOXO pieces are durable, safe, sustainable and a recyclable product. YOXO kits are available online and at independent toy stores across the county.
