Minnesota Public Relations' Biggest Night of the Year; Minnesota PRSA Will Honor Best Public Relations Programs

MINNEAPOLIS, March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The Minnesota chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) will honor 2003's best work in public relations at its annual Classics Awards at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2004 at Windows on Minnesota, 710 Marquette Av., in Minneapolis.

Minnesota PRSA will present more than 50 awards to individual public relations practitioners, businesses, non-profits, government agencies and public relations firms. In addition, the 2003 Donald G. Padilla Community Classic Award will be presented to Ann H. Barkelew, APR, Fellow PRSA, and a senior consultant for Fleishman-Hillard, Inc. of Minneapolis, for her service to the community. Barkelew has more than 30 years of top management experience with Fortune 100 and small-to-mid cap companies. In 1995, she was named by her peers internationally as "Public Relations Professional of the Year." For the second year, Student Classics Awards will be presented to members of local college chapters of PRSA for outstanding public relations work.

Liz Miklya, senior media consultant, Weber Shandwick Minneapolis, will serve as the emcee for the evening's event. Before joining Weber Shandwick a year ago, Miklya spent nine years as a television reporter, anchor and producer in the Midwest. Most recently, she was the political reporter for the Fox 29 News. Jackie Peacha, APR, founder of Kick, will provide color commentary.
