Carmichael Lynch Spong has named Michael Skjei design director. He will be based in the firm’s Minneapolis office.
Skjei brings more than 30 years of creative/design experience and corporate identity expertise to Carmichael Lynch Spong clients. Previously, he was design director at the agency from 1999-2009, refreshing brand identities for clients such as A.G. Edwards, American Humane Association and Toys “R” Us.
Prior to Carmichael Lynch Spong, Skjei worked for corporate communications design firms in both Los Angeles and San Francisco, where he served clients such as Georgia Pacific, Bank of America, Chevron and the American Red Cross. He also spent time as an entrepreneur and design consultant.
Skjei has won national awards from the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) and Society of Typographical Artists and is an international award winner, receiving honors from the Designers and Art Directors Association and the Society of Typographical Designers, both based in London. His work has appeared in several design publications including Communication Arts, Graphis and Émigré.
Skjei attended North Dakota State University and Moorhead State University, and holds a degree in art and architecture.
