“Food deserts — areas where healthy food is difficult to obtain — affect our entire community. Although this is one of the most critical issues facing America, a unified vision for fixing our food system has yet to emerge,” said Fred Haberman, CEO and co-founder, Haberman. “Together, we can leverage innovation and creativity to support food security, and I’m looking forward to starting the conversation with other passionate social entrepreneurs at SXSW Eco.”
In addition to leading his Minneapolis marketing agency, Fred Haberman is a co-founder of Urban Organics, a St. Paul, Minn.-based aquaponics farm; a co-producer of PBS documentary “Food Forward;” and is launching efforts to tackle food insecurity in the United States. Haberman has also created and led movements including the U.S. Pond Hockey Championships and employer-sponsored gardens, an employee benefit trend featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and HR Executive magazine.
SXSW Eco gathers on-the-ground innovators and executive level decision makers from the public and private sectors as well as thought leaders from academia to drive the conversation of sustainability beyond rhetoric and towards solutions. For more, visit SXSWEco.com.
